Almost 50,000 free tickets have been snapped up for Shane Warne’s memorial service on Wednesday as his grieving family thanked the public for its support.

More than 50,000 fans are expected to flock to the MCG for Shane Warne’s state memorial service on Wednesday, an event that has even prompted breakfast news programs to abandon their traditional coverage from Canberra of the federal budget.

Instead, the presenters will be based in Melbourne on Wednesday, with Nine’s Karl Stefanovic and Ally Langdon planning to be based at the MCG. Warne’s daughter Summer took to social media to thank the public for the support she and her family had received. “When we lose someone we love we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind.”More details of the service will be released on Tuesday, when Eddie McGuire, whose production company, Jam, has played a key role in organising the event, will front a press conference, alongside Warne’s great mate, former AFL footballer Aaron Hamill.
