Paramedics received a triple-0 call on Wednesday after remnants of a toy were found at the daycare's playground with button batteries nearby. Mr Mayfield said four button batteries were found near the toy, however childcare staff and paramedics had been unsure if there were any missing.ABC Sunshine Coast: Amy Sheehan"We liaised with our medical director … through face time to identify the product which was left there," he said.

Mr Mayfield said it appeared the old toy may have been brought into the facility by one of the children."I commend the parents … it would have been a daunting phone call for them to receive."A Sunshine Coast Health spokesperson said Sunshine Coast Health had provided X-rays for children who may have swallowed button batteries.

Ms Shoesmith said tougher Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's standards introduced in 2022 required toy manufacturers to have secure compartments that limited a child's ability to access them.Supplied: Andrea ShoesmithSuppliers of the button batteries themselves must use packaging that is similarly "child resistant", and all button-battery products must have safety warnings.
