The government report has shone a light on the systemic issues within the education system, with taxpayer-funded upgrades historically favouring popular schools.

The government outlines that 35 per cent of SA's public school buildings are considered too old, with the average building being almost half a century old. The figure is projected to increase to a staggering 75 per cent by 2052 if urgent action is not taken. The government is now implementing new criteria to prioritise school upgrades, which will consider enrolment trends, socio-economic disadvantage, and cultural factors.
"If we have schools where we are seeing more poor behavior from students, is that a reflection on the state of the assets as well?" Education minister Blair Boyer said.Boyer said the necessary updates could not be done without additional support from the federal government.
