Councils need more time to organise the rollout for multi-unit dwellings like apartments, according to an organisation representing councils in Sydney's west.
An organisation representing councils in Western Sydney is calling for a five-year delay to the NSW government's 2030 deadline to roll out food and organic waste collections.Apartments will need modifying to facilitate a new food and organic waste bin, a Western Sydney councils group saysPenrith council is a stand-out, having successfully launched a FOGO program in 2009
WSROC president Barry Calvert said apartments across entire council areas would need modifying to accommodate an extra bin. "We expect LGNSW will approach the NSW government following the conference to discuss all successful motions which relate to state government matters," a spokesperson for the Minister for Local Government, Ron Hoenig, said.
"Even when you're guided by the schedule, they're not being collected and everybody is getting increasingly frustrated." "It will get easier and the benefits for the community of adopting this important change are significant." "When you look at one council area, that may not be too difficult, but when you're looking at another council area that is full of apartments and high-rise buildings, you might find it's quite difficult.
