MORGAN HILL — Police arrested a boy after two people were hit by gel pellets fired from a moving car in Morgan Hill on Thursday, in what investigators suspect might be part of a TikTok challenge that has inspired similar instances across the country, includingOfficers were called at 3:48 p.m. to the East Main Street overpass above Highway 101 for a report that two pedestrians were hit by “multiple projectiles from a passing vehicle.
In a news release, Morgan Hill police referenced a so-called Orbeez Challenge on the social-media platform TikTok as possibly inspiring the pellet shooting. The challenge is named after Orbeez, a brand of gel pellets that once soaked in water grow in size from rice-grain to about pea-sized. Police added that the Thursday incident was the third time they’ve responded to such a call in the past two weeks in Morgan Hill.
