The Morrison government has opened the doors on a $100 million recycling fund, to increase recycling rates and turn used plastic, paper, glass and tyres into 'valuable products' auspol

, seven months after it was announced.

On Sunday, the Coalition said the fund, to be managed by the Clean Energy Finance Corporation , was now up and running. It will support projects that increase Australia's recycling rates and technologies that reduce landfill."Australians want to be confident that when we put things in our recycling bin, or deliver them to a collection centre, that they will be recycled and not dumped in landfill or simply sent overseas," Environment Minister Sussan Ley said.

As with other CEFC programs, the recycling funds will be offered as concessional loans. The overall $100 million comes from existing CEFC funds that were quarantined earlier this year. When criticising the "delay" around the recycling fund earlier this month, Labor's assistant environment spokesperson Josh Wilson said it did not involve any "new or additional money", describing it as "a case of putting a new label on part of the existing funding envelope".
