Prime Minister Scott Morrison has a “glass jaw” when it comes to his handling of the bushfire crisis, according to Labor frontbencher Tony Burke.
The prime minister has been heavily criticised and seen his personal popularity drop in recent Newspolls, partially in response to his initial handling of this season’s bushfire crisis. Mr Morrison rejected Labor's attack about his responsible during the devastating crisis and accused the opposition of “exploiting” the bushfire crisis for political gain.
Mr Burke told Sky News the prime minister should "show a bit of contrition". “What happened over summer in term of the public’s view of Scott Morrison’s character that people started to work out he wasn’t the person he pretended to be during the election,” he said. “He could have shown a bit of contrition, a bit of character, to acknowledge he got things wrong”.

Labor 'wastes' Question Time | Sky News AustraliaLabor has ‘wasted an opportunity’ to successfully wedge the government during Wednesday’s Question Time, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. \n\nThe Opposition used Question Time to target the Coalition over it’s response to the summer of bushfires and the sports rort saga. \n\nBut Mr Clennell said the effort fell flat. \n\n“Three months they have been waiting for this and this is the best they can serve up?” he said. \n\n“We have a government that is not performing well but they’re relying on the opposition not stepping up to the plate, just as they did at the last election. Morrison to unveil $40m 'permanent shield' against veteran suicides | Sky News AustraliaPrime Minister Scott Morrison will unveil a $40 million plan on Wednesday which the government says will be a “permanent shield” against military and veteran suicides.\n\nMr Morrison said the new National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention would have “the full powers of a royal commission”, would be a permanent position and a report would be handed to parliament each year. \n\nSince 2001, there have been 400 veteran suicides.\n\n“Our veterans and all serving men and women protect our community and our freedoms.
