The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet has released the documents outlining the details of Scott Morrison’s secret appointment to five additional ministries.
and confirm in writing that Governor-General David Hurley signed off on the additional portfolios for Morrison and confirm the dates - March 14, 2020 for Health, 30 March, 2020 for Finance, April 15, 2021 for Industry, Science, Energy, Resources and May 6, 2021 for Treasury and Home Affairs. “Scott’s apologised, rightly. I think he’s detailed that yesterday. I think it’s appropriate that he has apologised, because what he did clearly was the wrong thing,” Dutton told Tasmanian radio station Tasmania Talks.“It’s not something that I would do if I’m elected to be prime minister at the next election, and we’ll work with the government to make sure the checks and balances are put in place to make sure that it can’t happen again.
Assistant Minister for the Republic, Matt Thistlethwaite, said on Wednesday if Australia had been a republic there would have been more transparency.“The role of the governor-general is to accept the advice of the prime minister, and there’ll no doubt be further discussion about that role, and what the governor-general knew and whether or not he should have told the Australian people about that,” Mr Thistlethwaite said.
