Just because we haven't seen widespread defaults on mortgages in recent years doesn't mean we've been going about home lending right. Australia's high debt burden is a risk to our economy, with the potential to make the next economic downturn truly nasty, as jobless borrowers are unable to pay up. Ensuring Australians have access to good quality and independent advice on how to borrow to buy a home remains a matter of huge national importance.
