MotoGP: Francesco Bagnaia has claimed his third successive MotoGP Italian Grand Prix victory after charging to victory in Tuscany.
Six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez will join Ducati’s factory MotoGP outfit for the next two seasons, the 31-year-old Spaniard joining forces with reigning two-time premier-class champion Francesco Bagnaia in a formidable duo that boasts 11 world titles between them.
Despite competing on the hand-me-down bike used by Bagnaia to win last year’s world title, Marquez sits third in the world championship standings and has regularly challenged Martin and Bagnaia for race wins, showing he’s lost none of his speed after his past four seasons have been ruined by multiple surgeries following an accident in the opening race of the 2020 season at Jerez.
“From the first contact with the Desmosedici GP, I enjoyed riding it and adapted well straight away,” he said. Speaking to Sky Sports Italy, Ducati Corse managing director Gigi Dall’Igna said the decision to choose Marquez, knowing Martin would likely leave Ducati altogether, was difficult.
