A Victorian motorbike rider killed while taking part in an organised event near Bendigo on Sunday has been identified as speedway sidecar legend Warren Monson.

“Words can’t describe the sadness of the news we have been dealt today,” the club said as it paid tribute to its track record holder. In addition to his success in sidecar racing, Monson was a race engineer and mechanic for multiple winners of the Australian Superbike Championship.Monson with passenger Andrew Summerhayes after the pair’s sidecar success.Monson worked with Shawn Giles, Troy Herfoss, Josh Waters, Markus Chiodo and Wayne Maxwell, following the latter from Suzuki to Yamaha.

“Monson’s talent and dedication were reflected in his achievements in speedway sidecar where he raced with several passengers throughout his career including Matt Morgan, Scott Cameron, and Andrew Summerhayes. “Warren Monson’s legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of the motorcycling community, and he will be sorely missed.”
