My heritage led me to cooking as a profession. After culinary school, I managed a pie bakery in the suburbs of Detroit. After relocating to D.C. with my wife, I worked in pastry at DBGB, a french bistro, then most recently at a Jewish bakery in Woodley Park. After my first six months here, I got really homesick. One of the things I missed most was Buddy’s pizza, the original Detroit style pizza shop where I worked for a few summers after high school. I couldn’t afford a ticket home, so I turned to making my own pizza. I experimented with dozens of recipes, making pizza in my apartment at least three times a week, and for family and friends.
This GoFundMe is mainly to help with the larger costs associated with opening and operating a successful pizza business. We were able to secure funds for rent at the food incubator, however, our main need at the moment is preparing to scale up in order to be fully operational and safe.”
