🏠Mouldy homes will be worse this year as people turn off their heating to save money, say experts 🔴 SerinaSandhu1

One of the causes of mould is condensation which occurs when excess moist air hits a cold surface. It is most common between October and April. Warm air can hold more moisture so the problems start when the indoor temperature drops because of the weather and lack of heating.

Nicholas Donnithorne, technical services manager at Rentokil, said condensation and mould problems would be worse this year because people will be turning their heating down and leaving windows closed to keep in the warmth. He explained: “If you have excess moisture and you’ve got a cold surface, you’ll get condensation… Once you get to the point where the air is saturated, which is a moveable feast, then it can condense on a cold surface.

Mr Donnithorne said keeping excess moisture at bay and good ventilation systems, such as opening windows or using extractor fans, could help prevent mould growth.Mr Donnithorne recommended that after showering, people close the bathroom door and leave the window open or the extractor fan on to prevent moisture from moving around the property.
