An outback Queensland highway is rapidly falling apart and locals fear a fatal incident is all but inevitable as traffic skyrockets amid increased mining activity in the region.
A major highway in outback Queensland is becoming increasingly dangerous, road users say.When Kalinda Cluff gets into her car to drive to the shops, she fears for her life.
Ms Cluff is one of thousands of people forced to use the 300-kilometre arterial Mount Isa Boulia Highway each year, which connects southern parts of outback Queensland with the north. "The road is crumbling away on both sides because the heavy trucks are having to pull off the bitumen to pass each other," Ms Cluff said.
