An"assertive and refined" drop from the recent Penfolds 2024 collection has pushed the boundaries of flavour with fruit harvested from vines planted in the 1930s, writes Des Houghton.
Penfolds Bin 21 Grenache 2023 sits in the top tier of the collection alongside the showstoppers like the St Henri Shiraz, RWT, Bin 389 shiraz cabernet, the Bin 707 cabernet sauvignon, the Yattarna chardonnay and of course the Penfolds Grange, our world-class benchmark wine.It has an earthy spice mingled in a kaleidoscope of mouthwatering fruit flavours from raspberry to strawberry, cherry and plum.
He also made brandy and wrote history books. Of course, he introduced his daughter to the mysterious and magical world of winemaking when she was a young girl. And those tannins will ensure it ages well. She says it is a good food wine, especially for game meats.
