A Melbourne MP is leading a campaign to keep a convicted killer in prison for life, with friends and family of a victim fearing he will kill again if he is released. 9News

Denyer was sentenced to life in prison without parole, but this was later appealed and reduced to a non-parole period of 30 years, meaning the 49-year-old will be eligible for release in 2023.Liberal Democrats MP David Limbrick is leading the campaign to keep Denyer locked up.

"If Denyer did get released one day and we had opportunity to stop that and did nothing, how could we live with ourselves?" he said.He said the pain of her loss has stayed with him. Mr Russell said just the chance of Denyer being freed was upsetting, but if he was jailed forever their family could finally have peace.

"We feel if we don't act and make noise about this, we're scared nothing will happen and we might end up in situation where he's released," he said.Ms Stevens, 18, was murdered by Denyer after she got off a bus on her way home from the library on June 11, 1993.A fortnight later Natalie, 17, was murdered as she walked home from school.Denyer will be eligible to be considered for early release by the Adult Parole Board in June 2023.
