Allyson Felix bids farewell to the stadium that started her illustrious career

Michael Norman burst from the blocks in the 200 meters Saturday afternoon at the famed Mt. SAC Relays, burned the turn and headed down the stretch.“Oh, yeah, of course,” Norman said. “You kind of get a sense of presence, you know what I mean?”

Michael Johnson became the only man to win the 200 and 400 at the same Olympics in 1996, and held world records in both, but never was able to crack the 10-second barrier in the 100 . Jesse Owens and Carl Lewis each won four gold medals at a single Olympics, including the 100 and 200, but weren’t quarter-milers.

“I think we respect each other. We know what’s going on. When you have somebody who does an extremely similar thing as you, it brings out the best in both of us and elevates each other. There will be plenty more races down the road.” The TV broadcast and program of marquee events ended, but few people left remodeled Hilmer Lodge Stadium. Rumors spread quickly in track, and the queen was apparently making an appearance.
