Manager Luke Williams took the chance to make a number of changes

A rotated Notts County team fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Derby County in their second EFL Trophy group game.

Notts did offer a decent threat going forward with Derby’s Max Bird and Eiran Cashin having to combine to make a vital block from David McGoldrick’s effort after Aaron Nemane had done brilliantly to cut the ball back from the byline. Derby were knocking on the door of a second goal at the end of the first half and they got that goal just over ten minutes after the break, with Sibley on hand to knock in the rebound after Slocombe had blocked Collins’ acrobatic effort from close range.

The visitors just about kept their cool to hold on for the win, however, to hand the Magpies their second defeat from two games in the EFL Trophy, leaving them needing a win from their final group game against Lincoln City to have any chance of progression.
