Some feared the worst after Friday’s cancellation, worried the weekend wouldn’t go ahead, but once gates opened on Saturday morning the doubts and concerns dissipatedOpening acts Tasman Keith and PUP got the show under way, but when The Chats stormed the Amphitheatre that the festival really felt like things were in full swing.
Later on Saturday night headliners, including international acts Jack Harlow, Glass Animals and The Strokes, will play to a packed Amphitheatre, while rockers Violent Soho are expected to draw a huge crowd for their last performance before they take an extended hiatus. While the fact the festival actually managed to get under way was seen by many as a significant achievement, some kinks were yet to be ironed out.
Local artists who were due to perform on Friday were grumbling that they might not receive payment for the cancelled shows. There was also a strong police presence throughout the festival with every entrant required to walk past sniffer dogs and a police drug unit.
