Local authorities say rescue operations have been hampered after a main bridge collapsed in the region.
At least 41 people are dead and multiple people are injured after multiple landslides hit India's Kerala state.Relief efforts were ongoing on Tuesday, with two Indian Air Force helicopters mobilised, according to a statement from the chief minister's office.
State Health Minister Veena George said that over 70 people were injured and the Indian Express reported that many people are likely to have been washed away in the Chaliyar river. "Many people who were working in the estates and staying in makeshift tents inside are feared trapped or missing," he said.
Rescue operations were also hampered as there was no internet connectivity in the area, Mohsen Shahedi, a senior National Disaster Response Force officer told Reuters.
