The devastated mum of a teen boy who was stabbed in the street says his death has left 'huge hole in all our hearts'.
Dionne said: "He fought for six days. That gave us a chance to say goodbye. If it wasn't for one of the boys who carried him to safety I wouldn't have got my last six days to say goodbye to Gordon, I'm just so grateful. "The support I have had from everybody and seeing how many people's lives he has touched has got me through these last few weeks. He had an impact on everyone."
"I was actually there before the police and the ambulance. Someone had rung me, I live in Benwell and someone came and got me and took me to the scene. "We were told in the hospital, with him not having oxygen to his brain for so long, he was going to be severely brain damaged. I was pleading with the doctors, I said I don't care if I have to look after him for the rest of his life. I just wanted my little boy back.
"They put an extra bed in the room so I could get into bed with him," she said. "I was cuddling him as they took the tubes out. He wasn't alone and his family was with him. I'm so thankful for that."
