He suffered a bleed on the brain following an assault
The parents of a young man who took his own life have described the heart-breaking moment they discovered he had died.
On the evening of August 22 of this year Ryan, 25, was heard going to bed at his parents' home in Vulcan Road after he had been out drinking. The next day his dad Phillip, who said it wasn't unusual for Ryan to sleep all day, became concerned when it got to 9.30pm and he still hadn't heard him use the bathroom.Phillip said in a statement: "I noticed his skin colour was white and appeared blotchy. I remember thinking to myself 'he's died'.
An investigation by Cumbria Police found there was no evidence of third-party involvement or suspicious circumstances. A report from Ryan's GP at the Duke Street Surgery referred to Ryan suffering a bleed to his brain in January 2018 following an assault. Ryan had been binge drinking in the months leading up to his death and would spend his days in bed. Mum Amanda said his mental health had been "spiralling" out of control. A post mortem toxicology test found alcohol, codeine and evidence of cocaine use in Ryan's system. The medical cause of death was given as ligature compression of the neck.
