Author and poet Elli Johnson is sending her eldest daughter off to university
This week I spoke to Author and Poet Elli Johnson, about sending her eldest daughter off to university, being on her way to becoming an empty nester and the steps she’s putting into place practically, to enable her to make the transition smoothly.
"When I was panicking about my daughter going to university, I said to my husband I feel like something’s going to be carved out of me and I’m going to be walking around with this big hollow where part of my identity used to be. It’s so important to try and cling on to some small parts of yourself throughout motherhood, but its also really hard.
“Even having the headspace to think about what I want to do, what things I like and what I actually enjoy, away from all the things I have to do out of love and necessity. Thinking hey, I to watch that film, or even noticing that there is a film out that I want to watch, requires a lot of headspace.
