Australian academic Kylie Moore-Gilbert has delivered an emotional reaction to the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi who oversaw her harrowing 804-day illegal detention in a brutal prison, saying she “celebrated” the passing of a “mass murderer”.

'Mass murderer': Kylie Moore-Gilbert reacts to death of Iran ian President Ebrahim Raisi following harrowing 804-day stint in brutal Iran ian prison

There were no survivors after the aircraft, carrying both the President and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, crashed in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province on Sunday . “I join the many thousands of people inside Iran who were celebrating this death because whilst it would have been preferable to see him…put on trial for war crimes, which is where he deserves to be, this is know you, some sort comeuppance after what has been four decades of human right abuses and executions and other horrific deeds by this man and his cronies,” Ms Moore-Gilbert said.

She was then taken to Iran’s notorious Evin Prison and thrown into solitary confinement charged with being a suspected spy, which she described as “psychological torture” designed “to break you”. “Us female prisoners demanded to meet with him, and it was very telling of his ideology and his world view when he refused to meet with the female prisoners and only met with the male prisoners, which tells you a lot,” she said.

The 37-year-old new mum touched on life after her brutal imprisonment, saying her baby was a “real joy” and she was “really enjoying being a mother”.In contrast to the views of Ms Moore-Gilbert, the United Nations held a moment of silence for the Iranian President’s death - a move which has been described as “outrageous”.
