It doesn't amount to a windfall, but Gov. Josh Shapiro's proposed 2023 budget calls for small increases to the Commonwealth's entities overseeing museums and historical preservation.
Cultural and historic preservation in Pennsylvania would see a slight increase in funding under Gov. Josh Shapiro’s proposed 2023-2024 budget.Funding for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts would be set at $10.5 million.
“Both agencies support museums, and it is important to our association’s members that these agencies have the capacity to maintain staffing levels and services,” he said. “It is our hope that some of that increased funding will support Pennsylvania’s art museums and their general operations,” Baker said.Under the proposed budget, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Cultural and Historical Support grant program would be flat funded once again at $2 million.
The $2 million appropriation for the PHMC’s grants has not increased since the introduction of the program in 2012.
