“I’ve always done storyboards for my music videos, and so these comic book-esque treatments existed behind the scenes for my videos. So, when it came time to think about the music videos for, the idea popped up that’d it be really neat to have a whole graphic novel comprised of my ideas for the songs,” she tells.
Mxmtoon has been drawing as long as she’s been able to pick up a pen; she’s largely inspired by her grandparents who are artists, especially her grandmother who is a painter. Having grown up in this environment sparked a lifelong connection to visual expression. Although she has taken a focus on music, her relationship with the visual arts has only strengthened as she has pursued more music projects.
