Dean Gordon was just 16 when he sought help with his anxiety from End Youth Homelessness member charity MACS_NI in Northern Ireland and says it transformed his life 🔴 i’s Christmas Appeal has joined forces with EYH_UK to help young people in need
“Over the last year I have graduated with a law degree, interned over the summer in the courts of New York under a Supreme Court Judge. None of this would be possible without the support I received when I was younger.
After he had finished getting support from MACS himself, Dean began volunteering for them and became a mentor to other young people, supporting them through the pandemic, when many were feeling lonely and down. Dean then went for an interview with MACS, received training and now works for them as a sessional worker helping other young people.
“For me, MACS changed me by giving me confidence. I now work for them as I want to help others and want to give back.”“Youth homelessness is an issue that isn’t talked about enough,” he says. “, but especially not young kids. It’s not their fault. Not only will they be homeless, their mental health will be exacerbated and people might get depressed and turn to drink and drugs or feel suicidal. It is a vicious circle.
