Former NFL player Marcus Coleman gives the commencement speech during the 64th graduation ceremony for the Compadre y Compadre program at The Children’s Shelter in San Antonio on Thursday. The 48-year-old shared stories about his relationship with his father and how he relates to his own children.“That time makes a difference,” Coleman said. “You can help guide them.”

The crowd applauded the 11 graduates present at the ceremony as they received their certificates of achievement from Patricio Ortiz, the program’s director. They each left with a bag of items they could share with their children. There was a blanket to help with nurturing skills, a book to read to their child and a puzzle or game they could play with their youngsters.
