'I’m not saying I had a baby to get out of Christmas, of course. But, then again, I’m not not saying it either.'
UNITED KINGDOM - JULY 03: ?TV?s toughest female goes sledging with her two youngest fans. For the leather-clad, judo-bashing Avengers girl is also an auntie. Diana Rigg, 26, who is Cathy Gale?s successor in the new Avengers series, went home to Leeds for Christmas to spend Christmas with her family. Yesterday she took out her nieces Amanda Rigg, three, and Katherine, 14 months, for a snow ride.
This will be my first Christmas as a mother. It took a lot of willpower to not put that word in inverted commas, by the way: "mother". Some changes, you could say, haven’t quite settled in. But I do have a newborn - a lovely one, in fact. The current scene isn’t quite the hay and myrrh nativity found scattered across the greetings cards, primary schools and church halls you may be thinking of. I am neither in blue robes nor is my child in a manger - I am instead in a pair of trousers with a thoroughly elasticated waistband while my child jiggles boss-eyed against me in a sling. Things have changed somewhat since Mary’s day.
