Samuel Johnson has blasted music critic Molly Meldrum over his latest stunt at Elton John's concert, revealing he will 'never speak to him again' following his 'drunken' behaviour at the 2017 Logie Awards.
"I told him specifically not to come up on stage, he wasn't nominated. It was my moment. I wanted to make it about cancer and he wanted to make it about the network.
"He ended up coming up to the Gold Logie and my million-dollar moment was gone. He warbled in a very drunken fashion for eight whole minutes. Meldrum told The Herald Sun on Monday he had not dropped his pants intentionally, blaming the incident on a"faulty belt buckle".Meldrum, 79, was on stage with Elton - who was performing The B***h Is Back - when he shocked the audience by dropping his pants and flashing the crowd.
"I feel terrible if any of the security people get in trouble. The whole thing was 100 per cent my idea – no one else knew what I was doing. However, Johnson claims Meldrum's apology was"false" and said he doesn't believe it was a"wardrobe malfunction". Elton John welcomed a packed crowd of fans at AAMI Park in Melbourne last week when the Molly Meldrum incident unfolded.
The actor also spoke on WSFM Breakfast on Tuesday where he doubled down on his attack against Meldrum. “There’s a lot I haven’t said and I’m trying really hard to be diplomatic but I’ve seen this same type of thing happen over and over again," he told Jonesy and Amanda.Johnson used the 2017 Logie's platform to raise awareness for his charity Love your Sister, thanking his sister Connie who was battling cancer at the time and later died.
