To commemorate 75 years of the series, which began with the Isle of Man TT in 1949, the sport’s 11 teams unveiled a series of one-off throwback liveries on Thursday afternoon at Silverstone. The paint schemes of old were a nod to nostalgia, and a reminder of how far the championship has come since that inaugural six-race season that made stops at venues that have equally stood the test of time like Assen, Spa-Francorchamps and Monza.
Miller said his confidence, particularly after three consecutive crashes in Spain, France and Catalunya from round 4-6, had been dented.“The speed is incredibly fast this year and when you’re not gelling 100 per cent and you’re still finishing 10-15 seconds faster than the previous race winner the year before – but you’re still 30 seconds off the win – it’s a hard one. You’re scratching your head trying to understand where you can improve.
Gardner stepped back onto the MotoGP grid at the Sachsenring after his one-year tenure in the premier class with KTM ended in abrupt and bitter fashion in 2022, and has since carved himself a solid career in World Superbikes for Yamaha, sitting seventh in the standings at the halfway mark of the production bike series.‘Pit Talk’ MotoGP podcast, Gardner said he wasn’t shocked to hear how Miller’s time at KTM has come to a close after his own experience with the Austrian manufacturer.
The 11 teams – with two different title sponsors, the LCR Honda team went with different liveries for riders Johann Zarco and Takaaki Nakagami – were unveiled in the Silverstone pit lane on Thursday, and while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, some of the teams dived way back into their past to return colours of old into the modern-day series.
