I was pausing the TV every few minutes to work out where something was
As someone who has lived in and around Newark for more than two decades, it was really strange watching the sitcom comedy based on the town. "Newark, Newark" has recently begun to air on the BBC, two years after the series originally launched on Gold.
Yet now it's airing on the BBC and as I happened to be watching 24 Hours in A&E, which aired just before the first "Newark, Newark" episode, I decided not to change the channel and give it a go. It was not the easiest thing to watch, as every two minutes I found myself pausing the TV to work out exactly where something was filmed.
I thought the accents, although a bit thick at times, were spot on for the town, and overall the show really did capture the essence of Newark, but mainly only the negative bits. The kids causing problems across the town is still a big issue today as anti-social behaviour runs rife, especially in regards to teens in the Market Place.
Overall the show was pretty funny though and it is just one person's interpretation of the town, which let's face it does definitely have its ups and downs, along with a bit of a creative licence. One moment I couldn't help but roll my eyes about was when Matthew Horne, as Terry, waltzed in with his new mate from "The Rupert".
