Princeton University math professor June Huh is among the 25 MacArthur Fellows for 2022, announced Wednesday.

A Princeton University math professor is among 25 recipients of a fellowship so highly regarded that it is informally known as the “genius” grant.The winners — a mix of mathematicians, scientists, artists, scholars and activists — were announced on Wednesday.

Huh is known for proving long-standing mathematical conjectures by building bridges between different branches of math, including combinatorics and algebraic geometry, as“June Huh is a rare and distinctive talent with an inspiring combination of mathematical genius and creativity,” said Princeton University President Christopher L. Eisgruber.

Founded in 1970, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation says it focuses on a range of challenges, including global climate solutions, decreasing nuclear risk, promoting criminal justice reform in the United States and reducing corruption in Nigeria, the most populated country in Africa. Huh, who turns 40 next year, moved with his family at age 2 from California to South Korea, according to a biography provided along with his award announcement. There, his father taught statistics and his mother taught Russian literature.MacArthur Fellows are evaluated by an anonymous selection committee.
