New Jersey's seven-day average for confirmed cases was 790 on Friday, down 12% from a week ago and 52% from a month ago

“We are closely watching the recent rise in global COVID numbers and, given both previous trends with regard to spread and our location as an international nexus for travel and trade, we do anticipate that we will eventually see an increase in the number of cases in New Jersey,” Murphy and state Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said in a statement.

The statewide transmission rate was 0.84 on Friday. Any rate below 1 indicates the outbreak is on the decline with each new case leading to fewer than one additional case. When the rate is 1, that means the outbreak has leveled off at its current numbers. For the week ending Feb. 26, the omicron variant accounted for nearly 82% of positive tests sampled, followed by BA.2 at 18%.New Jersey has reported 1,888,440 total confirmed cases out of more than 17.4 million PCR tests conducted in the more than two years since the state reported its first known case March 4, 2020.

For the four-week span from Jan. 23 to Feb. 19, New Jersey reported 63,339 total COVID-19 cases, leading to 2,136 hospitalizations and 277 deaths.
