The Passaic Valley Water Commission says water shutoffs will resume on April 3.

Now that winter is over, the Passaic Valley Water Commission says it will resume shutting down water service to an estimated 9,000 delinquent accounts beginning April 3.

A state program that prevents shut-offs during the winter months ended March 15. This week, the commissionurging delinquent customers to square away their bills within the next two weeks, or face a shut-off. “We anticipate starting shut-offs on or about April 3, 2023,” said Lendel Jones, the PVWC communications director. “As the Executive Director Jim Mueller has said many times, we do not want to shut customers off. We will work with customers who are unable to make payments on their delinquent accounts.”

Jones said that of the 9,000 delinquent accounts, approximately 6,500 are residential. The PVWC has approximately 800,000 customers, most of them in Paterson, Passaic, Clifton, Prospect Park, North Arlington, Lodi, and sections of West Milford. To avoid shut-off, the commission is encouraging delinquent customers to either set up a no interest payment plan or, if they qualify, to apply to the state Department of Community Affairs for financial help through the Low Income Housing Water Assistance Program, open to residential customers, not businesses or property managers, according to the commission. Our journalism needs your support.
