A judge has ordered NAB to disclose how much it pays traders in Sydney in response to claims it discriminated against a black, French female trader. ausbiz

after a black, female trader brought a case alleging she was underpaid and discriminated against because of her race and gender.

Ms Diawara said she approached NAB’s global head of repo, David Bateman, in 2017 after becoming aware that two men offshore in similar roles were earning $US250,000 a year, significantly more than her own $200,000 a year base salary. In addition, NAB will need to provide the documents that set out how Ms Diawara’s remuneration was set and benchmarked when she started as a director of repo in Australia in 2016. A request to provide access to a much wider selection of NAB’s pay data was not granted, however.

The case has raised questions about trading floor culture, prompting a stern warning from chief executive Ross McEwan after NAB staff were alleged to have gamed an employment survey.Executives often have remuneration targets tied to staff engagement scores, meaning higher ratings can impact bonus pools at banks.
