Punters are being urged to have their say on the name for Brisbane ’s newest CBD train station. The station on Albert St — which will be the third in the CBD after Roma St and Central — is being built as part of the Cross River Rail network, expected to open in early 2026. The state government intends for the name to give public transport users “a clear understanding of the station’s geographic location”, Minister for Transport Bart Mellish said.
“It is important to us that whatever name is decided on ensures customers have a clear understanding of the station’s geographic location, can easily orient themselves when travelling on the Translink network, and helps customers connect with the local community in a consistent and commonsense way,” Mellish said. One name not on the shortlist that appears to have some support is Meanjin, the Turrbal word for the central Brisbane area.
