The NAPLAN report has shown boys and girls are excelling in different areas while the gap in results between high and low socio-economic groups has grown during the pandemic.
The gap in results between students with parents who failed to finish school and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds also tended to fall below the national averages.
“The national report analysis shows that female students continue to outperform male students in reading and writing, while males are outperforming females in numeracy, except in Year 9 where the gap is stable,” said Mr de Carvalho. The report indicated the results gap between high and low socio-economic groups widened in the last two years however it is unconfirmed if the impact of home schooling or the pandemic played a role or whether it is a longer-term national trend.
