NASA is preparing for the launch of Artemis 1 on Monday.
The US space agency hopes the mission will take America into the next generation of space exploration. The rocket stands at over 98 metres tall and consists of the Space Launch System Rocket and Orion crew capsule and is already in position to launch from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.
The unmanned craft will then be sent on a six-week test flight around the Moon and back to Earth, which will put the rocket under stress tests in preparation for future lunar landings. If this is successful, Artemis 2 will send astronauts on a spaceflight in just two years’ time, and Artemis 3 hopes to achieve the goal of putting Americans back on the Moon.
