Nathan Tinkler is back for another shot at mining coal in NSW’s Hunter Valley.

It is understood Tinkler is spearheading a consortium of capital markets types making a play for ASX-listed Australian Pacific Coal, which owns the Dartbrook coal mine near Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley.Tinkler and his partners are understood to be proposing a 30¢ a share takeover offer for the company, and would also refinance debts worth about $60 million.

It remains to be seen whether Australian Pacific Coal, considers the consortium’s offer. The company’s shareholders were scheduled to vote on the sale to Trepang on Monday. While it was a short stay for Tinkler, it was during his tenure that Australian Pacific Coal signed a deal to acquire Dartbrook.
