En una reunión a puerta cerrada celebrada el martes, el Ayuntamiento encargó al abogado Barry Schultz que empezara a negociar un contrato de trabajo para mantener de forma permanente a Benjamín Martínez.
Su muerte sorprendió a los dirigentes locales y a muchos miembros de la comunidad, ya que el exdirector de Desarrollo Comunitario había sido ascendido a mánager municipal dos días antes. El ascenso de Vergara se produjo después de que el anterior mánager municipal, Brad Raulston, dejara vacante el cargo en mayo.
