National media reaction from Everton's 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup
Everton made it back-to-back wins after they tasted sweet revenge over Aston Villa to book their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
The reward for Everton is a home against Sean Dyche's former club Burnley at Goodison Park in the fourth round. "As he was walking off the pitch in that 4-0 thrashing, Calvert-Lewin was jeered by his own fans and reacted by raising a sarcastic thumb in their direction. But it was a very different story on Wednesday night."Tom Colossomore of the Mail Online wrote: "If this competition seems a nuisance to Emery, Calvert-Lewin must wish he could play in it every week.
"The Brazilian could not control it and when the ball broke to Amadou Onana, he released Garner and the midfielder drove home from close range. Emery made a triple substitution at half-time yet it made no difference as Everton scored their second in the 50th minute."Ben Fisher of The Guardian wrote: "Garner controlled the ball with his right foot, took another touch on his left to compose himself and then wellied the ball in at Olsen’s near post.
"Villa routed the Toffees 4-0 in the Premier League last month but Sean Dyche’s side have begun to mount their recovery following a wretched start. Successive victories for the first time under Dyche – and first for a year – will continue to rouse the Toffees. With Luton and Bournemouth next to visit Goodison Park there is the chance to find real momentum.
