Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie has held a press conference to “clarify” her position on divestment powers after party leader David Littleproud confirmed the proposal had not gone through shadow cabinet.
Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie has attempted to"clarify" her position on airline divestment powers, claiming Labor is trying to"misrepresent" her views.on Monday in which she appeared to advocate for divestiture “as a measure to ensure consumers’ interests are protected”.
The controversial powers – which could be used to force Qantas to sell its stake in Jetstar – reportedly caused disquiet in the Liberal Party, coming only two months the Coalition partyroom was divided over Peter Dutton’s proposal for similar powers in the supermarket sector. While asking staff to hand out copies of her opinion piece to journalists, Senator McKenzie then claimed she had ruled out divestiture powers being used against Australia’s largest airline.
