Nationals leader Shane Love says the door has closed on their legacy alliance with WA Liberals, as the country party takes a crack at city seats.
They have confirmed they will run candidates in South Perth, Bateman, Darling Range and Kalamunda and are looking at other seats.Nationals Leader Shane Love says they will still preference Liberals to avoid splitting the vote.
"Certainly areas where, for instance, there's been a lot of concerns about the trouncing of local opinion over planning matters," Nationals WA Leader Shane Love said. He said the party needed to run candidates in metropolitan seats in order to stay relevant and tap intoAttempts to run a joint ticket with the Liberal Party did not come to fruition."What we need to do now is come together with the Liberal Party to work out how we best approach the 2025 election as separate parties, with separate policies, but with values which align in many ways, but don't always align.
"To be honest about this, and brutal, the decision about who was opposition leader was made by the Western Australian public in 2021 ... just as in politics the people of Western Australia determine who the premier is, by the numbers they determine who the opposition leader is," he said.She said the Liberal Party was committed to running a candidate in every seat in the state.
