NATO will likely ramp up military forces on its eastern flank, the head of the alliance has said, while warning Russia against using nuclear or chemical weapons in its invasion of Ukraine.
On Wednesday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz warned Mr Putin in direct talks not to use biological or chemical weapons in Ukraine, according to German newspaper Die Zeit weekly.
Ukrainian authorities say they have been able to reach an agreement on a humanitarian corridor out of Mariupol.Mr Stoltenberg also called on China to condemn Russia's war in Ukraine and to not provide "material support" for Moscow.Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng said on Saturday that Western sanctions against Russia were getting "more and more outrageous".
The Mayor of Kyiv said one person was killed and two seriously wounded on Wednesday after shells hit a shopping centre's car park in a northern district of the Ukrainian capital.Heavy artillery fire was heard on Tuesday too from the north-west, where Russia has sought to encircle and capture several suburbs.
