The head of a prestigious British bank has resigned after a row with UK broadcaster Nigel Farage who aired claims his account with one of its subsidiaries had been cancelled due to his political views.
Mr Farage had last week launched a scathing attack at the company after he was notified in March that his account with Coutts, another of the group's banking arms, would be terminated.
“Put simply, I was wrong to respond to any question raised by the BBC about this case. I want to extend my sincere apologies to Mr Farage for the personal hurt this has caused him and I have written to him today," she said in a statement prior to her resignation. On Wednesday NatWest chairman Howard Davies issued a statement confirming Ms Rose would resign.
"It is a sad moment. She has dedicated all her working life so far to NatWest and will leave many colleagues who respect and admire her."
