Advocates have lashed the axing of the scheme that would have enabled people with disabilities to work in NDIS auditing teams.
Already a subscriber?A $4 million training program designed to help people with disabilities find work in NDIS auditing teams dedicated toon Monday said there was not enough scrutiny of the $42 billion scheme’s providers and “not enough thought given to the qualifications of the scheme’s workforce”.
Grant Lindsay, chairman and president of the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations, slammed the move as a bad start for NDIS Quality and Safeguard Commission acting commissioner Michael Phelan. “The termination of the grant by the NDIS Commission was enacted following consideration of the progression of the project to date in line with the funded proposal,” the spokeswoman said.
“The program was pioneered to integrate the lived experiences of people with disabilities into the audit process of registered NDIS providers. This would enable them to pick up things that able-bodied people might miss, but it also provided the transferable skills to work in other auditing roles.
