A federal investigation is underway after two passenger planes nearly collided on a runway at Los Angeles International Airport last week. Video footage shows a Delta Airlines flight preparing for takeoff while a Key Lime Air flight was directed towards the same runway. An air traffic controller intervened, ordering the Key Lime plane to stop just before a potential collision.
A federal investigation is underway into a near-miss at Los Angeles International Airport after two passenger planes almost collided on a runway last week.
At the same time, Key Lime Air flight 563 was given its orders by air traffic control and then moved towards the runway while the Delta plane was at full speed. Key Lime 563 was a chartered flight that had touched down at the airport minutes earlier with Washington-based men's basketball team Gonzaga Bulldogs on board.The university said it will wait for more information and is"grateful" everyone is safe.
"Air traffic controllers directed Key Lime Air Flight 563 to hold short of crossing a runway at Los Angeles International Airport because a second aircraft was taking off from the runway at the time," the FAA said in a statement.
