The North East Independent School District will add $35 million to its next budget to give all employees a 4 percent pay raise in the 2023-2024 school year.

North East ISD School Board President Shannon Grona and Superintendent Sean Maika listen to comments at a meeting in 2020.The North East Independent School District board of trustees has added $35 million to its next budget to give all employees a 4 percent pay raise in the 2023-2024 school year.

It will amount to the largest pay increase in 20 years at NEISD, communications director Aubrey Chancellor said. Last year the district raised salaries by 2 percent for teachers, 3 percent for para-professionals, and 1 percent for all others. If the district “spend every penny” of the $615 million it has allotted for district operations next year, the budget will be considerably larger than the current year’s $541 million, officials said in Monday’s meeting. But the forecasted total is closer to $596 million, they added, given the potential for job vacancies and other restraints.
