Australia was in the hunt for a top-three position to gain direct qualification for the final after legs by Josh Azzopardi, Jacob Despard and Jake Hale.But before Hale could pass the baton, Browning stumbled and then fell to the track. Veteran Channel 7 commentator Bruce McAvaney said he had “never seen anything quite like it, to be honest”.The moment Rohan Browning fell during the relay heats.“Just gutted. So sorry. I know these boys put in so much work and in many years of athletics, nothing like that has ever happened,” he told Channel 7.The 24-year-old explained what caused him to fall was that the track “caught my toe and slipped”.
In commentary for Channel 7, former sprinter Tamsyn Manou speculated Browning had not had enough time to work on his relay campaign while training for the individual 100m.
